In an endeavor to prioritize equity within my practice, I aim to challenge the conventional business models that often impose financial obstacles for many individuals.
In the Boulder/Denver area, the standard rate for therapeutic services stands at $130 per hour. However, this market rate affects each individual disparately, particularly those facing barriers related to racism, sexism, ableism, classism, and more. To tackle this issue, I propose the utilization of a self-assessment and scale to empower clients in determining their investment for services. By evaluating the provided assessment questions and situating oneself within the scale based on current circumstances, individuals can make informed choices regarding their engagement with therapy.
Recognizing that this information may be overwhelming, I am more than willing to delve deeper into it during our sessions to address any queries or concerns. I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to implement this model, enabling me to offer optimal care to a broader spectrum of individuals.
1. Market Rate- $130. Asking folks to select this rate if they are able to meet their basic needs comfortably along with a few expendable wants with this rate budgeted in.
2. Sustain $80-$129. This is below market rate for those with limited financial resources. We are hopeful that you will be able to access support without financial strain.
3. Redistribution $131-$230. Those who are able to pay a higher rate without experiencing hardship ensure that those who have fewer resources are able to pay a reduced rate for therapy.
4. Solidarity $55-$79. This range is for folks who are unable to access support with most therapists/practitioners due to financial and societal barriers.
Please take a moment to complete the following brief self-assessment, which will assist you in determining your placement within the sliding scale:
1. Are you and your family homeowners or landowners?
2. Have you attended private educational institutions or obtained an advanced degree?
3. Are your bills or credit cards set up for autopay?
4. Have you encountered minimal difficulty accessing and affording healthcare or health insurance for yourself or your family?
5. Do you possess little to no debt and/or have disposable income?
6. Do you have a safety net provided by financially stable or affluent family and friends?
7. Are you a U.S. citizen?
8. Does your income solely support yourself, without additional dependents?
9. Have you received or do you anticipate inheriting money or property?
10. Have you attended or do you have the potential to attend college and/or graduate school?
Sliding Scale Rates based on your answers to the questions.
If you answered almost all no → Solidarity
If you answered more no than yes → Sustain
If you answered more yes than no → Market Rate
If you answered almost all yes → Redistribution
